AL
Andrew Lam
Manager, Policy and Communications
Public Sector & Government

I've seen firsthand how disorienting it can be to navigate a new country, a new system, or a new career path without anyone to show you how the pieces fit together. A lot of what I know now came from people who took the time to explain the "unwritten rules" of how things work. I want to do the same for others, especially newcomers building careers in policy, nonprofit work, or community-facing roles, by sharing what I've learned about navigating institutions, writing for real audiences, and turning research into action.

Ashley King
Ashley King
Actor, Playwright & Journalist
Arts, Media & Journalism

After completing a four-year degree in Journalism, I began my career on a path toward journalism and communications, driven by a passion for storytelling and connecting with audiences. As a mixed-race Canadian with a disability, I had long believed that opportunities in acting and theatre were limited—or not meant for someone like me. After briefly working in journalism, I found myself searching for a more creative and personal way to tell stories. That shift led me to an opportunity with Inside Out Theatre, a disability-led company that would ultimately redefine what I believed was possible. Through this work, I connected with mentors and allies in the theatre community who encouraged me to explore my creative voice and see my lived experience as an asset rather than a barrier. With their support, I returned to school to study acting and began building a career that bridges both the creative and administrative sides of the arts. Today, I work in arts administration while developing my practice as an actor on stage and on screen. My creative work has been internationally recognized, and has received awards and nominations for my artistic contributions. My work is grounded in my intersecting identities, and I am committed to using my lived experience to advocate for accessibility and to support more authentic, inclusive representation across the arts.
