How Life Dojo works.
A step-by-step walkthrough so you know exactly what to expect — whether you're finding a mentor or becoming one.
Create your account
Sign up with your email and choose "Join as Student." You'll set up your profile with your name, field of interest, and preferred language.
Tip: Use your real name — senseis are more likely to accept requests from people they can relate to.
Find your sensei
You have two options. Browse the sensei directory and request someone directly, or use "Help me find the right sensei" and we'll match you based on your field, language, and goals.
Tip: Not sure who to pick? Use the guided matching — it takes 3 minutes and our team finds the best fit for you.
Send a request
When you find a sensei you want to work with, send a mentorship request. Include a short message about what you need help with — this helps the sensei decide.
Tip: Be specific: "I need help understanding APEGA registration" works better than "I need career advice."
Wait for acceptance
Your sensei will review your request and accept or suggest a better match. You'll get an email and in-app notification when they respond.
Tip: Most senseis respond within 1–3 days. If you haven't heard back in a week, try another sensei.
Send your first message
Once accepted, introduce yourself in the messages tab. Share your background briefly, your main question, and what you hope to get from the first session.
Tip: Keep it short — 3–4 sentences. Your sensei is volunteering their time.
Schedule a session
Go to the scheduling page, pick a time from your sensei's availability, choose a duration (30, 45, or 60 minutes), and select a meeting platform. Jitsi is free and works without any account.
Tip: Book your session within the first week of being accepted — momentum matters.
Prepare for your session
Before the session, you'll see a prep card on your dashboard with specific tips based on whether it's your 1st, 2nd, or 3rd session. Come with one clear question and one artifact (resume, job posting, or LinkedIn profile).
Tip: The #1 thing that makes a session useful: arrive with a specific question, not "any advice?"
Join the video call
At session time, click the "Join" button on your dashboard. If using Jitsi, it opens in your browser — no downloads needed. Google Meet, Zoom, and Teams also work.
Tip: Test your audio/video 5 minutes before. Find a quiet spot.
Complete the post-session flow
After your session, you'll see a wrap-up card: rate usefulness (1–5), write 1–3 action items for yourself, and send a thank-you note to your sensei. Then book the next session.
Tip: Research shows 3 sessions create lasting career impact. Don't stop at one.
Track your progress
Your dashboard shows a progress tracker: Session 1 → Session 2 → Session 3. Each session builds on the last. Action items from previous sessions help you stay accountable.
Tip: Complete your action items before the next session — it shows your sensei you're serious.
